This is the single biggest power unlock on a stock engine. Bama's custom tune adjusts air/fuel and timing for the intake + throttle body combo. Without a tune you're leaving 10–15hp on the table. Runs fine on 87 octane after tuning.
Real Performance — 50–55 rwhp total gain
Keeps the $500 tier and adds the exhaust and suspension that make the car actually feel faster. Handling improves just as much as straight-line pull. These parts compound — exhaust unlocks the tune, suspension makes the power usable.
The 3.5" inlet on the Violator is oversized for stock cats — meaning it's ready to handle any future shorties or long tubes you add later. Sounds deep and aggressive without the drone that kills highway comfort. Stainless steel, lifetime warranty.
These two parts fix the S197's factory alignment problem — cars with staggered wheels (stock setup) run positive camber on the rear, which kills tire contact patch under cornering. I run this setup on my own car and I have no plans to go further unless I swap a Coyote in.

Header downpipe combo is the next power unlock after exhaust. Shorties fit under the car without cutting — no welding, no fuss. Paired with the Pypes cat-back you already installed, this eliminates the factory exhaust bottleneck. Expect 20–30hp from this alone on a tuned car.
The S197 chassis twists under hard launches — torque box plates and wheelie bars transfer power to the ground instead of wasting it bending the unibody. On a street car that sees strip duty or occasional track days, this is the difference between spinning and hooking.
The real handling upgrade. Factory rear suspension is designed for comfort, not performance. The best suspension upgrade for the money on an S197. Sticky summer tires replace the all-seasons from the $1K tier. The NT555 G2 is the go-to for street-driven S197s — great dry grip, predictable breakaway, and it doesn't shatter on imperfect asphalt. Square setup (same size front/rear) for better balance on track.
Everything above has been bolt-on, no permanent modifications. A dyno tune is where you actually unlock all of it. HP Tuners' MPVI2 device lets a local tuner with a dyno write a custom tune specific to your exact parts list, elevation, and fuel. A good dyno tune on a fully bolt-on S197 is worth 30–50hp over a hand-held tune. Worth every dollar — find a reputable S197 tuner in your area (S197 forums, local track community).

Common Questions
Can I start with just the $500 tier?
Absolutely — that's the whole point. The $500 tier is a complete, satisfying build on its own. 20–35hp on a stock-bottom engine is noticeable and reliable. The $1K and $2K tiers build on it in order. You don't have to do them at once — buy the $500 tier first, drive it, then add the next tier when you're ready.
Does a cold air intake void the warranty?
Not by itself. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects you — a dealer has to prove a mod actually caused a failure to deny warranty coverage. CAI alone won't void anything on an S197. The tuner's device is the same situation. Dyno tune is slightly more complex (could affect emissions testing) but is generally fine for street use.
What's the right order to install these?
Intake and throttle body first (easiest, builds confidence), then exhaust, then suspension. Headers go in when you're ready for the $2K tier. Dyno tune last — always. A good tuner will dial in whatever combination of parts you've installed up to that point.
Which brands do you actually trust?
BBK for intake and throttle bodies — they're made in the US and the quality has been consistent for years. Pypes for exhaust — the sound and build quality are top notch. BMR for everything suspension-related — I've beaten on their parts for years with zero complaints. I run BMR on my own S197. I don't recommend budget no-name brands from Amazon for suspension, but wheels and tires can come from anywhere.
What about the V6 vs. GT differences?
The $500 tier works on V6 and GT — CAI and throttle body fit both. The $1K and $2K tiers are primarily GT-focused. V6 owners can do the exhaust and control arms but won't see the same power gains without forced induction. The comparison table and ordering logic apply to GT builds.
